Acne & Breakouts
Acne is a common skin condition, medically known as acne vulgaris, that impacts the face, neck, chest, back, and shoulders.
Acne occurs due to a combination of overactive skin glands together with plugging of the skin pores and, often, an overgrowth of skin bacteria. The severity can also vary from mild textural changes through to deep and painful cystic acne.
Severe acne can be complicated by persistent scarring and can be associated with loss of self-esteem, particularly in teenagers and young adults.
Our first step is listening to your concerns and goals. We can then match the treatment to the type and severity of your acne. We take into account your age and gender, as well as what part of the body is being affected.
Our treatments range from simple medical options and topical treatments, to specialised glass erbium lasers which deactivate the sebaceous glands and reduce the bacterial load on your skin.
If your acne has already caused some scarring, we can discuss how to best clarify and smooth your skin, helping to restore your healthy texture.
Causes of acne, scarring and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
Understanding the underlying causes and risk factors of acne is crucial for effective management:
Mild acne may involve the appearance of blackheads and whiteheads, with a few inflammatory lesions.
Moderate acne includes papules and pustules in addition to blackheads and whiteheads.
Severe acne involves a significant number of nodules, cysts, and widespread inflammation. It is more likely to lead to scarring and can also lead to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
