Photodynamic Therapy
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a non-surgical, non-invasive procedure that is now used worldwide. It can safely clear multiple cancerous and pre-cancerous lesions from a large area of skin in a single treatment session. It is also suitable for other skin conditions such as seborrheic keratoses, acne and even warts.
The treatment involves using a light-sensitive solution (ALA activator) which is applied to the affected skin. The skin is then exposed to a specialised light source leading to the destruction of damaged cells. More than one treatment may be required in some cases of severe sun damage or more advanced skin lesions.
Photodynamic therapy will not damage normal skin. It destroys only the abnormal cells. The result is not only the elimination of the skin cancers but has the added benefit that there is no residual scarring, depigmentation or whitening of the treated area. Collagen production and healing are also promoted – smoothing fine lines and rejuvenating your skin.
